Mind Your Own Accounting Practice
Licensed professionals are held to high standards and usually are very responsible people. Most responsible people usually feel quite used. My default belief (unless proven differently) is that most people like to be helpful. Licensed accountants (CPAs and EAs) are no exception; CPAs and EAs know how to follow the accounting rules and like to see that others benefit from our help. Many times though, our accounting profession is not respected. There are many myths about accounting and bookkeeping; these myths include that bookkeeping is elementary and easy, that accountants like shoeboxes of receipts, and that accounting is only necessary at tax time. Accounting is so much more than a necessary evil. If you are looking at this page, I’m preaching to the choir. I mention this precaution here though because I see a lot of accountants accepting disrespect and playing small.
When I hear CEOs give speeches, I wonder what their accounting team is thinking of the proclamations of the company’s great health. Would the accounting team agree, or do they wish they could tell the audience the real story of the company’s financial woes? There are business owners who want to learn their numbers and who want to properly do their books. Becoming an accounting coach means you are truly a trusted advisor. Gone can be the days of feeling you are just getting the tax returns done for people who do nothing but complain about your services.
If you are interested in becoming an accounting coach, I am interested in supporting your own practice. I train helping professionals how to learn their business numbers and to manage their accounting books, and now I have expanded to helping accountants create accounting practices where they can feel the helpful fruits of their labors. If you are interested in having a side hustle, your own practice, in specializing within a particular industry or with personal financial organization, let’s get started by completing and submitting the form below. I will review your form and will be in touch. If you would like to jump right into a 1:1 meeting with me to review your options, you can see my availability and can book an appointment by clicking here. All individual appointments are at my 2024 rate of $150/hour. That first session will be an opportunity to ask your questions, the ability for me to unpack my boatload of questions, and then a presentation of my recommendations.
I have been a CPA since 1988 and have seen a thing or two zillion about businesses. In 2012, I started my own practice helping small business owners and individuals. In 2017, I added a counseling practice to my services. In 2021, I added coaching services for therapists to manage the books of their businesses. Now, I have come full circle in being able to train fellow accountants into having the practice of their dreams. Being able to have a business of your own, no matter how small, is incredibly empowering and freeing.
There is one prerequisite to train to be an accounting coach with me. I exclusively use QuickBooks Online (QBO). To get the full benefit of my coaching, accounting coaches need to be QB ProAdvisors.
